Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates the English team's Injury Problems.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the field early on day two of the fourth Ashes Test against Australia.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over on Saturday.

The England team stated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines for further assessment "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January gets underway at the end of the week.

The visitors have been without strike bowlers one seamer with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up as cover for Wood.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps in Australia's first innings, then making 28 while batting being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he resumed the next day and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

However, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
